Datsyuk Hopes To Sign New Deal With Wings

DETROIT (AP) - Pavel Datsyuk says he hopes to sign a new deal with the Detroit Red Wings this summer.

Datsyuk spoke with reporters at Joe Louis Arena on Friday, two days after Detroit was eliminated by a 2-1 overtime loss to Chicago Blackhawks in Game 7 of their second-round series.

The Russian star has one year left on his seven-year contract. Red Wings general manager Ken Holland wants to sign Datsyuk to another deal as early as July 5. Datsyuk led Detroit with 15 goals and 49 points in the 48-game, lockout-shortened season. He tied for third on the team with nine points in the postseason.

He helped the franchise win the Stanley Cup as a rookie in 2002 and again in 2008.
