Limit The Screen Time, Increase Playtime For Kids During Summer
DETROIT (WWJ) - Younger parents seem less concerned about the effects of technology on their kids, according to a new study.
Northwestern University researchers surveyed more than 2,300 parents of kids 8 and under and found, 59 percent aren't concerned their kids will become addicted to new media.
Beaumont Child Psychiatrist Joel Young says although younger parents tend to be more comfortable with technology, there should still be limits, especially with summer vacation approaching.
"The limits should not be dramatically increased over the summer," said Young. "Because you don't want your children to form habits that will be hard to break come fall. Children should be encouraged to go outside, and to use their imagination etc.."
More than 60 percent of those parents surveyed did admit they're concerned about whether screen time cuts into exercise time for kids.
