Caputo: Three Reasons The Tigers Are Struggling Seldom Mentioned

By: Pat Caputo

1. The Tigers hitting from the left side the plate is among the worst in the American League in most statistical categories. The lack of production from Victor Martinez, Andy Dirks and Alex Avila this season has been hurtful.

2. The Tigers are still lacking defensively. Not only is their range still questionable at many positions (first base, shortstop, third base) but they are starting to make a lot of errors.

3. The Tigers have allowed 57 stolen bases and only have 22 stolen bases (fewest in the American League). So they are not only lacking speed, but their pitchers have not been good holding base runners.
