21 bands, 3 stages, and 1 great cause: S'Mittenfest – Detroit's Newest Summer Tradition

Mittenfest fans, listen up: this year, the annual tradition that celebrates music, culture, and generates money for good cause has a new edition to the festivities: S'Mittenfest. The kickoff for the newest Detroit summer tradition will be headlined with 21 bands – 20 of which are from Michigan and 1 from Ohio – and all proceeds will go to help fund the non-profit organization 826 Michigan. Mittenfest, 826 Michigan's winter festival, has been a successful 7-year running tradition in Detroit and has managed to raise over $75,000 in support of its free programs for school aged children.

826 Michigan, based in Ann Arbor, opened its doors to students in 2005. Since then, the organization has been supporting students aged 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and helping teachers inspire their students to write. Last October, 826 Michigan branched out to Detroit.

CBS 62 got the chance to speak with one of the bands playing this Saturday, Revoir. Jason Revoir writes all of the music for the band, which he describes as having a new-wave sound, similar to Depeche Mode. Revoir played at Mittenfest in 2011 and was really excited to be a part of the S'Mittenfest benefit concert this year. S'Mittenfest reached out to Revoir after another band had originally cancelled their spot – Jason jumped on the opportunity. He says "I had a great time at Mittenfest and I was excited to help out a good cause again." Check out Revoir here, before the show!

The benefit concert will kick off Saturday, July 20 at 2pm at the Magic Stick in Detroit. While you're there supporting the great cause, also enjoy 11 hours of music from local bands that are sure not to disappoint (see full line-up below). Admission fee is $10.00 at the door and all ages are welcome.
