Detroit Cop Fired For Texting Lewd Pic

DETROIT (WWJ) - A veteran Detroit police officer has been fired after allegedly sending an explicit photo of himself to a subordinate.

Detroit police confirmed that Inspector Don Johnson was let go from the department for "conduct unbecoming an officer," after they say he texted the inappropriate picture to a woman on his police department issued cell phone.

Johnson, who was commanding officer of the department's homeland security division, was suspended with pay during the initial investigation last October. He returned to work but was demoted and reassigned.

Johnson was then fired on Tuesday following a disciplinary hearing.

Police Chief James Craig told reporters Johnson's conduct was "egregious. He said the Detroit Police Department's executive team is held to a very high standard.

Craig, who has been on the job for less than a month, said more personnel changes are coming.
