Man Critically Injured Showing Roommate How To Use Gun

DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A Dearborn Heights man remains on life support after getting shot early Tuesday morning, and police are now releasing more details.

Officials said the 31-year-old man was accidentally shot by his roommate while he was teaching her how to defend herself with a gun in case someone broke into the home.

It happened on Westpoint, near Telegraph Road. Police are looking into if and what charges will be filed in the case.

Friends of the victim identify him as Ronald Hobbs, but police are not yet confirming that name.

"Ronald had an uncanny ability to walk into a room, and smile, and steal the attention from everyone. It was an extremely infectious smile," said Raumsin Golani of Royal Oak, a close friends of Hobbs, and a "big brother" in their fraternity.

Golani said everyone is having a hard time coping with this tragedy right now.

"But we'll understand later on that this man, not only did we reach out to help him, he touched our lives in many ways that we cannot express," said Golani.

A fund has been set up for Hobbs' young children. CLICK HERE to find out how you can help.
