MUSKEGON (WWJ) – Grand Valley State University will celebrate the formal dedication of the new Robert B. Annis Field Station with a ceremony and tours for invited guests on Monday, Aug. 12.

The event will include remarks from Grand Valley president Thomas J. Haas, R.B. Annis Educational Foundation trustee C. Daniel Yates, Annis Water Resources Institute director Alan Steinman, as well as volunteers, donors, and students.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with remarks at 6 p.m. Remarks will be followed by self-guided tours of the Annis Field Station, the Lake Michigan Center, and the research vessel W.G. Jackson.

Grand Valley State University researchers and students have already begun using the station for important research involving Michigan’s freshwater resources and the Great Lakes, thanks to the efforts of more than 230 donors who made the completion of Grand Valley’s new Robert B. Annis Field Station possible.

The campaign to support the Robert B. Annis Field Station raised more than $2.35 million in private funds and included gifts from a wide variety of Grand Valley supporters, community members, and those passionate about the health and well-being of Michigan’s freshwater resources.

The new Robert B. Annis Field Station offers students and researchers 14,700 square feet of research laboratories, offices, mesocosm tanks, a boat loading bay, and secure storage. The new facility is state of the art, and has dedicated space for year-round research — something that was not possible in the old, unheated facility. The building has been designed and built to meet stringent LEED rating standards by using materials and systems that were selected for their durability, sustainability, energy efficiency, and their ability to decrease long-term maintenance and operations costs.
