1. The Lions must eliminate after-the-whistle penalties. It has been among their biggest flaws in recent years, and it became utterly ridiculous in the preseason loss at Cleveland last Thursday.
2. Receivers not named Calvin Johnson must hang onto the football. The drops by Nate Burleson and Brandon Pettigrew at Cleveland were alarming. So was the fact Ryan Broyles played so many snaps and was hardly involved in the offense. It’s not like he is an experienced player. He could use the work.
3. The Lions’ defense must end the blown coverages. It was absurd how the Browns’ first-team offense dominated the Lions’ first-team defense. And the Browns’ offense stinks.
