SWAT Raids Home In Taylor, Drugs Suspected

DETROIT (WWJ) A dramatic scene this afternoon in Taylor as a police SWAT team raid a home at Eureka and Telegraph.

Neighbor Alexandra Balmaceda watched it unfold.

"We just saw the SWAT team pull up, and they all hopped out with their guns out and one of them kicked the door in," she said.

"I couldn't see very well, there were cars in the way. I just heard a loud bang and then they all started going in."

Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said they've arrested several people for drug activity. Police are still on the scene.

The southwest corner of Taylor, with an array of federally subsidized townhouses, was long known as a haven for drug activity. The city instituted special police patrols to undercut the problem starting in the late 1990s.
