DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are searching for the man who robbed a Family Dollar on Detroit’s east side and made off with an arm full of cat food.

Police say the armed robbery occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday in the 15200 block of E. Warren, near Lakepointe Street.

According to police, the suspect entered the store and walked up and down the aisles as if he was shopping.

After selecting packages of cat food, the suspect approached a clerk, produced a weapon and demanded cash, police said.

The suspect was captured by surveillance video as he exited the store carrying plastic bags that contained the money and packages of cat food.

The suspect is described as a medium build black male, approximately 40-years-old, 5-feet 7-inches tall and 180 lbs. with a goatee and mustache. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a dark color t-shirt, blue jeans and a dark colored scarf covering his head.

Anyone who can identify the so-called “cat  bandit” is asked to contact Detroit Police Criminal Investigations at 313-596-1340, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
