ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions say they have claimed safety DeJon Gomes on waivers.

The team announced the move Monday, six days ahead of its regular season opener against the visiting Minnesota Vikings.

The Washington Red Skins announced Gomes’ waiver Saturday.

He played college ball at Nebraska and was a fifth-round pick by Washington in 2011.
