Two Houses On Detroit's East Side Go Up In Flames

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two houses go up in flames on Detroit's east side. As of 7:30 Monday morning, fire crews had managed to gain the upper hand on the fire which broke out at two homes on Field Street, near the Edsel Ford Service Drive and Harper Avenue.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reports from the scene that a ladder truck was dumping water on top of one of the houses, which was nothing more than a burned-out frame and the chimney. The house sits right next door to another house that was left standing, although there might be some residual damage from the fire.

Dewey says the family inside of the house was able to escape and there were no reports of injuries. However, firefighters had to hook up to a hydrant down the block in order to gain access to the water necessary to put out the blaze.
