KALAMAZOO (WWJ) – On Oct. 29, the Southwest Michigan Procurement Technical Assistance Center will hold a special training session to educate local businesses on how to package their goods for shipment to federal military bases around the world and how to use the Wide Area Workflow website as a federal government prime contract award winner.
“Military Packaging and Wide Area Workflow Training” will be held on Oct. 29 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center located at 4717 Campus Drive, Kalamazoo. Hosted by Southwest Michigan PTAC, PTAC of South Central Michigan and Muskegon Area First PTAC, this is a free event offered to local businesses. Boxed lunches will be available for purchase.
The day’s presenter will be Jackie Walker, a military packaging specialist and consultant with 26 years of experience working with government agencies (TACOM and Defense Contract Management Agency) to better protect products for shipping. She is trained in defense/military packaging, Radio Frequency Identification and Wide Area Workflow requirements.
Divided into a morning and afternoon session, topics will include:
• How to Use WAWF Efficiently and Effectively: Payments to federal government prime contract award winners are made in different ways. One way is through the online WAWF website. Attendees will learn to use this paperless invoice and receipt/acceptance repository which allows government personnel to process invoices.
• Military Packaging: Shipping to federal military bases and operations around the world involves understanding and following regulations. Product must arrive without damage and be ready for immediate use or held in storage. This session will provide information to help attendees understand military packaging requirements, including RFID, Item Unique Identification, national stock numbers, unit of issue and part numbers.
