New Flint Police Chief Is Former Detroit Deputy

FLINT (AP) - Flint's emergency manager says the city of 102,000 has a new police chief, a former deputy chief from Detroit.

Darnell Earley says James Tolbert replaces outgoing Chief Alvern Lock, who became police chief in 2009 and announced his resignation at the end of September.

Earley says Tolbert spent 27 years with Detroit police.

The emergency manager says Tolbert "has a wealth of has a wealth of experience in urban core policing that will prove invaluable" to the Flint police department.
