EASTPOINTE (WWJ) – A suspect is on the loose after a hit-and-run incident on Gratiot Avenue near 8 Mile road late Monday morning injured a construction worker.

Eastpointe Police Lieutenant Dave Ernatt told WWJ the suspect tried to steal a cement saw.

“At that time an employee tried to thwart the theft and was dragged by the vehicle across 8 Mile Road, and per witness it appears that the suspect intentionally veered into some construction barrels,” said Lt. Ernatt.

The construction worker has non-life threatening leg injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male with a stocky build and the vehicle is an older red, 2-door GM sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call Eastpointe police.
