Masked Man Shoots Dollar Store Clerk In Robbery Attempt

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – A dollar store clerk in Southfield is recovering after being shot during an attempted robbery.

The incident happened just before 7 p.m. Monday at the Dollar Tree on 8 Mile Road near Evergreen Road.

The suspect, who was wearing a Halloween mask, walked into the store with his weapon drawn and started making demands. At some point during the robbery, police say the suspect shot a store clerk before fleeing the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hip. No other injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as wearing a black zip-up hoodie and khaki pants. Police believe the gunman was picked up by an accomplice in a maroon SUV.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the suspect made off with any money. An investigation is ongoing.
