ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) - Another one bites the dust. Since wide receiver Nate Burleson broke his arm in a car accident, the Detroit Lions have shuffled a number of players through the wide receiver and tight end spots.
The latest transaction, and perhaps the most surprising, is the release of 30-year-old tight end Tony Scheffler, according to the reporter for the Lions website.

Scheffler's roster spot will be taken by offensive tackle Barry Richardson, who adds depth to an offensive line that saw two starters go down Sunday. Left tackle Riley Reiff went down with a hamstring injury, right tackle Corey Hilliard left the game with a knee injury, and other right tackle Jason Fox was inactive for the game because of an earlier knee injury.
Scheffler was in his fourth season with the Lions. He had played in all but one game each of the previous three years and racked up 1,229 receiving yards in that span.
The tight end played in five games in 2013 but suffered a concussion against the Green Bay Packers and did not play either of the next two weeks.
