Kids Rescued After Dad Falls Overboard In Lake St. Clair

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - A father and his two children are safe and sound after a Coast Guard rescue on Lake St. Clair.

St. Clair Shores police Lt. Jason Allen said dispatch received a call Monday morning from a man who said he'd been fishing with his kids when he fell overboard.

The man was able to swim to shore near 9 Mile and Jefferson Ave., only to watch his children, still in the boat, drifting away.

Allen said that's when police called for backup.

"We contacted the Coast Guard; they responded and pulled that boat into the shore," Allen told WWJ Newsradio 950's Kathryn Larson.

The dad and the kids, checked out by EMS at the scene, were found to be OK and not in need of further medical attention.

Allen said the family is extremely lucky considering the chilly water temperature and the choppy water conditions.

Names have not been released.
