MEDC Sets Virtual Career Fair For 60,000+ Jobs

LANSING (WWJ) -- The state employment Web site MiTalent.org has more than 60,000 open positions. State officials hope to fill at least a few of them in a MiVirtualCareerFair event Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tim Horton's restaurant at 3331 Rochester Road in Troy.

Also participating will be Tim Horton's at 1301 W. Main St. in Gaylord, 900 Fulton St. W in Grand Rapids, and 4870 State St. in Saginaw.

The jobs will also be available online at www.mitalent.org/virtualcareerfair.

Pure Michigan Talent Connect and Michigan Works staff will be onsite at Tim Hortons to offer resume tips and interview advice. Computers will also be set up for job seekers to participate in the MIVirtualCareerFair and apply for one of the open positions.

In addition, Workbox Staffing and Phoenix Personnel will be onsite at the event.

"The June career fair we held in partnership with Tim Horton's was a huge success, with more than 20 employers and 1,000 participants making connections," said Joe Quick, manager of talent programs at the Michigan Economic Development Corp. "Partnering with Tim Hortons allows us to extend our resources, including the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website, to job seekers who otherwise might not have access and help connect them with career opportunities throughout the state. There are more than 60,000 jobs available in various industries on the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website, which connects Michigan employers to qualified talent as well as provides resources for job seekers."

MiVirtualCareerFair allows employers to connect with top talent and gives job seekers the opportunity to apply for more than 100 available positions without the inconvenience and expense of traditional job fairs. Since the first MiVirtualCareerFair event in February 2012, more than 90 employers and more than 11,000 job seekers have been connected.

For the Nov. 13 event, job seekers are encouraged to visit select Tim Horton Cafe & Bake Shop restaurants to take advantage of the various resources that will be available onsite, helping both Michigan residents and employers find and fill jobs. Talent Connect and Michigan Works! staff will be on hand to provide advice and feedback on resumes, interview tips and answer questions.

Computers will also be available and connected to Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop's free Wi-Fi, allowing participants to upload their resume to the mitalent.org website and connect with participating companies at the virtual event.

All participants are encouraged to come with resumes ready to share with employers virtually and with Talent Connect and Michigan Works representatives. Participation is free for job seekers, who can register, view informational videos on the virtual environment, and learn how to navigate within the environment.
