83-Year-Old Dies As Fire Breaks Out In Home During Storm-Driven Power-Outage

KALAMAZOO (AP) - Authorities say a storm had knocked out power to a Kalamazoo-area home before it caught fire, killing an 83-year-old woman.

Family members say Willadean Small had dementia and lived alone in the Galesburg house. They say her husband lived nearby in a nursing home.

The fire broke out during a storm-driven power outage that blacked out at least 631,000 homes and businesses around the state.

High winds from the storm fed the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
