Time Lapse Video Shows Michigan Stadium Preparing For The Winter Classic
Michigan Stadium is no stranger to outdoor hockey. In December of 2010, fans filled the Big House for The Big Chill in numbers exceeding 100,000 to see the Wolverines take on the Spartans in a record-setting event for the sport.
The stadium prepares for outdoor hockey once again as the 6th Annual Winter Classic -- the premier game of five outdoor games the NHL will host during the season -- comes to Ann Arbor on New Year's Day. Michigan Stadium was scheduled to host the event last season, but due to a player lockout, was postponed to the 2013-2014 season.
In addition to the Winter Classic, downtown Detroit will host the Hockeytown Winter Festival which includes the Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings Alumni Showdown and seven other college and minor league games at Comerica Park. 97.1 The Ticket's Jeff Riger got a glimpse of the rink coming along at the center of the field.
A live stream of the progress of Comerica Park can be found on the NHL website.
