Warren Man Charged In 'Skate World' Break-In
TROY (WWJ) - A Warren man is behind bars after police said he tried to rob a skating rink in Troy.
According to Troy police, early Tuesday morning, officers responded to a burglar alarm at Skate World, on E. Maple Road, and found a door was slightly ajar. When they approached to investigate, police said the suspect slammed the door and ran back inside the building.
Officers then caught 20-year-old Remel Charles Barbee — armed with a pry bar he'd apparently used to break in — trying to escape out a back door.
Inside the business, police said the found Barbee had broken into the gaming machines and had attempted to steal electronics.
Barbee pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of breaking and entering, and is being held on $15,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in 52-4 District Court for a hearing before Judge Kirsten Hartig on Dec. 10 at 9 a.m.
