Early Open Skate Sessions At Comerica Park Cancelled Due To Icy Weather

DETROIT (WWJ) - The weather outside is frightful -- so much in fact that officials have been forced to cancel some of Tuesday's open skating sessions at Comerica Park.

The first two skating sessions Tuesday morning will no longer take place due to icy conditions. Organizers say the cold temperatures aren't good for the ice because it can shatter. However, the rink will be up and ready for open skating, beginning at 11 a.m.

It's all part of the two-week long Hockeytown Winter Festival coordinating with the NHL's annual Winter Classic game. Public open skating inside Comerica Park will allow fans to have the once-in-a-lifetime thrill of skating on the same ice as their Red Wings and Maple Leafs Alumni hockey heroes.

Public open skate events are available in 50-minute increments for $25/adult, $15/kids 14 and under, and $5/non-skater. Fans can bring their own skates or rent skates for $10.
