Schwartz Out! Says Sports Analyst On Fate Of Lions Coach

Chicago Bears v Detroit Lions

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) – Will they or won’t they? It’s a split decision on the fate of Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz.

Some analysts, like Jay Glazer the NFL Insider for NFL on Fox, are going out on the line predicting this will be Schwartz’s final performance with the team.

Meantime, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said he believes Schwartz is safe.

97.1 The Ticket and WWJ’s Jeff Lesson says there is a big buy-out factor for the Lions management to consider before canning the coach before the end of his multi-million-dollar contract.

The Lions finished the season, that started 6 and 3, on Sunday with loses in six of their final seven games.

Still, most of the players talking to 97.1 The Ticket and WWJ’s Tony Ortiz, after that final game, said they want to see Schwartz return next season.

That group included guard Rob Sims who said what ails the team is not an easy fix.

“I thought we took a big step in that kind of stuff this year,” he said. “Some of the things we’ve been doing, you know, as far as like the older guys, you know, the leadership on this team.

“But, you know, there’s no quick fixes,” Sims said, “nothing’s overnight … There’s no switch you turn on … It’s years and years and years of things being a certain way we’ve been having to fix, and we just didn’t have the time; we just didn’t have enough time to get it done this year.”

The Detroit Lions organization has not made any comment on the fate of Schwartz, but Lions fans talking to WWJ’s Mike Campbell weren’t shy about voicing their opinions.

“There’s no discipline,” said one man. “The team doesn’t play well under them; they make the same mistakes, so I believe that he should be gone.”

Who should the Lions bring in then?

“I have no clue,” said another fan. “I just know that Jim Schwartz needs to be out.”

Online vandals Monday morning forced a lock down of Jim Schwartz’ Wikipedia page.  Over the past several days, the page was changed to show that Schwartz was the Lions’ “former coach.”   Other mischief included listing him as the team’s ball boy and the mascot for the state of Michigan.
