Snowstorm Closes Government Offices, Courts And More

DETROIT (WWJ) - There are a number of government offices, courts and other closings as a result of the snowstorm.

All Secretary of State offices in southeast Michigan are closed, except for the SuperCenter at the state office building on West Grand Blvd.

All Detroit Public libraries are closed.

Detroit's 36th District Court is closed along with:
17th District Court in Redford Township
46th District Court in Southfield
48th District Court in Bloomfield Hills
Federal Court in downtown Detroit
Frank Murphy Hall of Justice (Criminal Division), and
The Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing, which houses the Supreme Court, Lansing office of the Court of Appeals, and State Court Administrative Office.

Canton and Shelby Township offices are closed today. Sterling Heights offices will be open, but not until 10 o'clock this morning.

The Social Security Administration Field Offices in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties will be closed today. You may still get your Social Security business done online by visiting www.socialsecurity.gov.

Some people who work at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County are being told to stay home. Non-mission essential military and civilian personnel from the 127th Wing will be granted administrative leave today due to the storm and road conditions. 127th Wing administrators say if you are unable to get to work contact your supervisor to work out proper leave status.

Also, some cities are delaying or canceling garbage pickup for the day.

Garbage and curbside recycling in Sterling Heights will not be collected today. Pickup will be delayed one day through this week. The same is happening in Livonia.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said over the weekend that garbage that is by the road from last week will be picked up today, but garbage pickup for this week will be delayed by a day all week.
