The winners are chosen by a panel of 48 automotive journalists in the United States and Canada, including WWJ Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Gilbert and WWJ Auto Analyst John McElroy.

Jurors evaluated the entries based upon design, innovation, handling, safety, driver satisfaction and value.

General Motors North American President Mark Reuss was thrilled.

"I couldn't be prouder of the teams that executed this, and all the hard work and personal time, and the families that gave up the time to launch these and develop these over the last two or three years," Reuss said.

The other finalists in the car category were the Cadillac CTS and Mazda 3. The Jeep Cherokee and Acura MDX were the other two finalists in the truck/utility vehicle category.
