Fund Set Up To Assist Family With Funeral Costs For 4-Year-Old Son Killed In Shooting

DETROIT (WWJ) - A fund has been set up to help the family of a four-year old boy shot to death by his cousin.

Triumph Church has set up the Jamel Witcher Jr. fund to collect donations to help with funeral and burial arrangements.

In establishing the fund, Reverend Soloman Kinloch Jr. said no parent should ever have to worry about how to bury a four-year old boy.

Witcher was shot at a home on Tuxedo Street last week after his four-year old cousin found a loaded rifle.

Last week, the 4-year-old boy was killed, apparently as the result of an accidental shooting at the hands of his own cousin.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon at the children's grandfather's home on Tuxedo Street, near Livernois and Davison on the city's west side.

"They were playing in a room inside the home; the female found a long gun underneath the bed and pointed it at the male 4-year-old and pulled the trigger," Detroit Police Public Information Officer Adam Madera said.

The boy, who was shot once in the chest, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
