DETROIT By DETROIT Showcases The Best Of Detroit Music

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) What started as an "April Fools" show has become an annual tradition celebrating Detroit music -- Welcome to the fourth annual DETROIT by DETROIT showcase.

The musical showcase will take over the Magic Stick Feb. 22, showcasing the talent right here in metro Detroit, and proving ‐ once again ‐ why the local music scene is unlike any other.

It started in 2011 with 12 Detroit bands covering 12 other Detroit acts. This year, with the same concept, it will feature more bands than you can count on two hands, switching between two stages.

"It's a musical thrill ride, with each year bringing new surprises," promoters say.

Participating bands were given the opportunity to cover the Detroit artist of their choice, with each act playing three songs each. Covered acts range from the nationally‐acclaimed Grand Funk Railroad and The Supremes, to local favorites like The Hard Lessons and Phantasmagoria.

All ages are welcome, with a $5 donation for 21+ and $7 donation for under 21.

For the third year in a row, proceeds will fund a special scholarship at School of Rock for a future Detroit rock and roll‐er– and emceeing this year's event will be the ladies of Hip in Detroit.
