TAYLOR (WWJ) - Police in Taylor say a 46-year-old man was killed when he tried to make an illegal turn into a gas station from the left-hand lane and was struck by another vehicle.

The accident happened early Friday morning near the intersection of Telegraph and Goddard roads.

According to police, Mark Boyd was traveling in the left lane of westbound Goddard Road just past Telegraph Road when he decided to turn into a gas station on the right-hand side of the road.

As Boyd was attempting to turn, police say a Hyundai sedan that was traveling in the right lane of westbound Goddard Road t-boned his vehicle.

Boyd, of Lewiston, Mich., was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a Taylor resident, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Goddard Road was closed for hours after the accident as police investigated, but has since reopened.
