MACOMB TOWNSHIP (CBS Detroit)  - The Macomb County Sheriff's Department is calling it "assault with intent to maim."

Deputies were dispatched Saturday to the 49000 block of Marseilles in Macomb Township on a domestic violence call, where a 36-year-old man told them he had been involved in an altercation with his live-in girlfriend — which culminated in her biting off part of his ear.

The man told deputies that his girlfriend arrived home and the two argued, police said.

"As he tried to walk into a bedroom, she followed him and began to punch him in the face and head," deputies said in a press release, adding, "As he turned his back to her, she jumped onto his back and bit off a portion of his left ear."

The man was treated by medical personnel and the missing portion of his ear was located. He was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Danielle Nebelung, 31, was arrested and arraigned Monday afternoon in 41-A District Court in Shelby Township on a charge of aggravated assault.

She was given a $10,000 cash or surety bond and will be back in court next Monday morning.

Nebelung faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
