Legal Team In Place For Grosse Pointe Park Man Charged In Wife's Murder

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The Grosse Pointe Park man accused of plotting his wife's murder has a new legal team.

Michael McCarthy will now represent Bob Bashara, along with attorney Lillian Diallo.

Bashara had been scheduled to go on trial in March, but the case was delayed when Wayne County Judge Vonda Evans has agreed to allow new defense attorneys to be assigned.

Bashara was unhappy with the work of his previous lawyer, Mark Procida, who admitted he'd been unable to get his client all of the sealed evidence.

Bashara is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 56-year-old Jane Bashara. Authorities say she was beaten and strangled at the couple's house in January, 2012, and her body left in a car in a Detroit alley.

The family's former handyman Joe Gentz is in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. He has said Bob Bashara paid him to kill Jane Bashara and threatened to kill him unless he followed orders.

Bob Bashara in media interviews repeatedly has denied any role in his wife's death. He pleaded guilty in 2012 to trying to have Gentz killed in jail and is currently serving time in that case.

The murder trial is set to begin Oct. 6
