Father Of Aiyana Jones Sentenced In Shooting Death Of Teen

DETROIT (WWJ) - Charles Jones, the father of seven-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones, who was killed in a Detroit police raid, has been sentenced in the shooting death of a Detroit teen.

The 28-year-old Jones, accused of providing a gun to Chauncey Owens in the murder of 17-year-old Je'Rean Blake, faces 40-to-60 years in prison for second degree murder and up to 20 years in jail for perjury.

His attorney Leon Weiss says the jury found Jones not guilty of providing the gun, but guilty of second degree murder...what he calls a contradiction.

"Without question, there's a number of legal issues that I believe give Charles Jones an honest chance to someday have a new trial in this case and we're gonna pursue the appeal on his behalf."

Aiyana was killed during a police raid in 2010 when police were looking for Chauncey Owens.
During sentencing Jones faced the mother of Je'Rean Blake ...

"My client of course looked her in the eye as well today and said I feel sorry for your loss byt I did not give this man the gun - I didn't take any part in the death of your son. So as least as far as my client's family it is also a tradgey. And then my client lost his daughter because of a grandstanding raid by the Detroit police," said attorney Leon Weiss.

Officer Joseph Weekley faces a second manslaughter trial after a hung jury in the first trial.
