Man Found Dead In Portable Potty Died Of Exposure

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ/AP) - An autopsy shows that an unidentified man whose decomposed body was found inside a portable toilet at a Lake St. Clair boat launching site died of exposure.

St. Clair Shores police said the man may have been homeless and may have used the toilet for shelter during the frigid, snowy winter. The Macomb County Medical Examiner's Office said the man died of hypothermia.

Police think the man is between 40- and 50-years-old, but they're still trying to learn his identity. His remains were found Sunday by a security guard at a municipal boat launch on 9 Mile Road near Jefferson Avenue.

Police said the remains were so decomposed, it appears the man could have been dead inside the portable toilet for about five months.

The man is described as white, 5'11" tall and about 120 pounds with brown and gray hair. He was wearing a plaid button-up shirt, a heavy, dark-colored hoodie and prescription glasses.

Anyone who might have information on the case is urged to contact police at 586-445-5305.
