SOUTHFIELD (CBSDetroit) - Star gazers may have a chance to see science in action this weekend as the orbit of the International Space Station brings it over the Detroit area.

The station will appear as a bright star as it streaks across the sky nearly 220 miles above the earth at 17,500 miles per hour.

If the weather forecasts holds with clear skies Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, the space station will be visible at the following times:

- 10:39 p.m. Friday for 6 minutes traveling across the sky from the west to the northeast,

- 9:49 p.m. Saturday for 6 minutes traveling across the sky from the west to the northeast,

- 10:41 p.m. Sunday for 2 minutes traveling across the sky from the north to the northeast.
