Warren Library Shuts Doors Amid Bedbug Infestation

WARREN (AP) - A metro Detroit library has been closed as part of an effort to stop a bedbug infestation from spreading.

The city of Warren announced Thursday that emergency preventive actions are being taken after the Miller Branch was closed. Library workers being trained to recognize bedbugs and staff will be instructed to carefully inspect items when they're returned.

Mayor Jim Fouts says he's prohibited any donation of used books to the city's branch libraries because bedbugs can be found in such books. He said in a statement he's also "directing the library staff to be on the alert for visitors who might have bedbugs on them."

An inspection turned up the Miller Branch infestation after an insect that resembled a bedbug was found Saturday. The city's other library branches remain open.
