Technology We Can Use: Bartender Drones

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - A new bartender droid takes the dreams of many fanboys who wanted their own R2D2 — who could deliver drinks similar to  "Return of the Jedi" — and makes it a reality.

The personal robot bartender concept, Yura, is described as "a personal bartender that can make anything from a healthy cocktail, tea to coffee," according to the website Yanko Design.

According to the designer, Yura can utilize voice or computer commands to make a drink. It can then can hover and fly to deliver it. It also can make the drink with a specific amount of calories, and with a smart cartridge, it can keep the beverage hot or cold

Designer Herman Haydin created the bartender, and is a finalist in the Electrolux Design Lab competition. If the drone bartender concept is selected as the winner, Haydin will receive 5,000 Euros and a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre.
