Pat Caputo: 3 Reasons The Pistons Should Remain At The Palace
By: Pat Caputo
DETROIT (97.1 THE TICKET) – This week, the Pistons issued a statement saying they have no intention of moving into the new arena being built in Detroit.
These are three reasons why they are right:
1. The Palace of Auburn Hills has stood the test of time as a model, modern venue. It is as relevant today as when it opened during the late 1980s, especially after Pistons’ owner Tom Gores updated it with several millions dollars of renovations since buying the team three years ago.
2. The Palace, privately build by the Pistons’ former owner, the late William Davidson, is fully paid for, so why would the team want to pay rent to the Ilitch family to play in Detroit?
3. There is much competition between The Palace and Ilitch holdings currently, that isn’t only sports related, but entertainment related. That competition is good for the consumer. It would be taken away if the Pistons vacate The Palace.
