DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 5-mile paddle race is planned around Detroit's Belle Isle on Saturday.

Called the Once Around Bell Isle Festival, the event also will include live music, craft beer, food trucks and local vendors.

Organizers call it the first-ever paddle race and festival of its kind to take place in Detroit.

Attendees will be able to check out an array of stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and crew rowing equipment. They also can participate in Paddlerama, a series of on-site classes, demonstrations, contests and sprint competitions along the shores of Belle Isle Beach.

Everything starts at 9 a.m., with registration for the races. Tickets start at $25 a piece. Kids 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
