Caputo: 3 Things MSU Must Do In Order To Beat Oregon

By: Pat Caputo

1. The Spartans' defense is capable of crowding the line of scrimmage and forcing Oregon QB Marcus Mariota to try to beat them with passes deep. Mariota is a terrific runner, and the Ducks' running back trio of Bryon Marshall, Thomas Tyner and Royce Freeman is much more threatening than their inexperienced receiving corps. Also, Oregon doesn't have a great offensive line. The idea is to try to force Mariota to beat them over the top with passes out of the pocket. Not sure he can do it that way.

2. The Spartans' ground attack offensively is key. They must win the time of possession and turnover battles. Running backs Jeremy Langford and Nick Hill ,and the Spartans offensive line, must come up big.

3. MSU QB Connor Cook must play every bit as well as he did in the Big Ten Championship Game and Rose Bowl victories last season over Ohio State and Stanford.
