Mom, Teens Face Charges For Allegedly Covering High School Football Field With Grass Killer

BEDFORD TWP. (WWJ) - A Monroe County mother and her 16-year-old daughter, along with another teen, are accused of causing thousands of dollars of damage to a high school football field.

Last Friday, police were called to Bedford High School to investigate what administrators thought was a targeted attack on the school's football field. Specifically, officials thought someone covered the playing field with some form of grass killer.

The Sheriff's Department went to work, gathering evidence and talking with possible witnesses. On Tuesday, investigators received information that led to the questioning of three Bedford Township residents: a 50-year-old woman, her 16-year-old daughter, and a 17-year-old boy.

Through interviews, police say they discovered that the trio was responsible for causing the damage. The group apparently got the idea from a similar stunt they saw on the Internet, according to police.

School officials say repairs to the football field are ongoing and are expected to cost thousands of dollars.

Police are now seeking criminal charges against all three suspects for the damage. Additional charges could also considered against the mother for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 734-240-7530.
