Domestic Dispute Turns Into Deadly Shooting In Redford
REDFORD (WWJ) - A woman is recovering in the hospital and a suspected gunman is dead after an apparent domestic dispute in Redford.
The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Woodworth Street at Vassar Street, in a neighborhood near Beech Daly and 7 Mile roads.
A neighbor, who did not want to be named, told WWJ's Mike Campbell the situation unfolded after she heard a woman yelling outside of the home, banging on windows and doors.
"I heard arguing outside my window of a woman arguing with her boyfriend, telling him to come outside, she knows he has a woman in the house. She gave him until the count of three to come out. He didn't come out so she went around the house and she made his car alarm go off, and that's when he came outside and they continued to argue," she said. "She was like 'You just got through f****** me last night and now you've got a dirty, dusty b**** in there' and he was like 'Just go on' and she's like 'I'm not going anywhere.'"
Then, things took a turn for the worse.
"The next thing I know, I heard like three gunshots and I thought he shot up in the air but obviously he shot her because that's when she was like 'You shot me,' and he was like 'Oh man, now my life is over. Why you just didn't go? Why you just didn't leave,'" the neighbor said, adding that she immediately dialed 911.
Police arrived on the scene and found the man standing over the woman in the driveway. He then ran up the driveway away from the officers, police said.
"When the police came up and flashed the lights on him and said 'Freeze!' that's when I heard another shot. So, that's when he must have took his own life," the neighbor said.
The man was declared dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman is hospitalized in stable condition with multiple gunshot wounds. Identities have not yet been released.
The scene was quite a sight for some residents who were awakened when the sound of police sirens cut through the night.
"There was a bunch of cops standing around with assault rifles," one neighbor said. "Other cops were walking around, they had the dogs walking around."
Police were still at the home investigating when several school children walked past the crime scene on their way to the bus stop.
Michigan State Police, Southfield Police and Livonia Police are assisting Redford Police in the investigation, which is ongoing.
