Grand Circus To Host Free Tech Boot Camps

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Grand Circus in Detroit is offering a pair of free boot camps to help professionals looking to get into a new career learn how to code.

The free, intensive classes are intended to "connect" and  "empower" Detroiters with area tech-companies for high-growth, big potential careers.

"Basically there is an incredible need to for people to be brought into the (IT) world," said Derek Turner, Grand Circus vice president of operations. "With Boot Camps it's a really great way to get that accomplished. It's intensive."

With nearly a four percent unemployment rate in the technology field, there is a need for new employees both locally and nationally.

The two classes offered by Grand Circus are:

  • An eight-week Android boot camp, where students can learn to make applications for mobile phones.
  • A five-week quality assurance class where students learn the fundamentals of coding and java. These skills can be used to for testing software and preparing it for customers.
