Police Searching For Suspect Connected To Armed Robbery At Gas Station

LENOX TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery at the Shell Gas Station located on 26 Mile Rd early Monday morning.

Deputies received a "911" call to the address at approximately 1 o'clock after a subject robbed the station. According to the clerk, he was preparing coffee when an unidentified man entered the store and immediately pointed a gun at him.

According to police, the gunman ordered the clerk behind the counter and directed him to open the cash register.

The clerk described the suspect as a white male, heavy-set and with black clothing. He wore a facemask, gloves and was carrying a semi-automatic handgun.

The suspect is described as being between 5' 10" and 6' tall, and weighs approximately 240 pounds. The clerk estimated he is between 20 and 30 years of age.

The clerk stated that the gunman took the money from the till and then asked the clerk about "the drawers" stating that he knew that there was more money.

The suspect grabbed cash from a change drawer and then took a carton of Newport cigarettes before he fled the store.

Sheriff deputies attempted a sheriff's K-9 track, however, it appears that the thief entered a waiting car.

Deputies were able to review a surveillance video and determined that the gunman was wearing black shorts, a black hooded sweatshirt, and had a bandana-style covering over his face. Police say the stolen money was put into the pockets of his hoodie.

Deputies and detectives are investigating the matter, however anyone who might have information about the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Macomb County Sheriff's Office at (586) 307-9412.
