ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) - Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson had been limited for two games before missing last Sunday's game entirely, and Johnson said he would not be surprised if the Lions decided to go in a similar direction this week.

"Not beating it up, not going out there, rolling it again, that definitely helps," Johnson said. "The more and more we can stay off of that particular area, the faster it'll heal.

"There's no point in being on the field if I can't go out there and do what I've got to do and do it to a high level that I'm used to doing it at," Johnson added.

Johnson said he has been doing lots of ankle-strengthening and balance exercises but has not done on-field work yet. Pain in the ankle remains an issue.

"There's still some lingering in there," Johnson said. "If it was feeling great, I'd be out there."

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford targeted Johnson 34 times over the first three games of this season. Evidently because of concern about Johnson's ankle, Stafford threw to him only three times over the next two games, and then the Lions sidelined Johnson entirely last weekend.
