Deadly Accident On I-75 May Have Centered Around Cell Phone Use

BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly accident on I-75 Monday morning.

Witnesses tell WWJ a car went under a tractor trailer on northbound I-75 near Dix-Toledo in Lincoln Park.

Initial investigation revealed that the driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic drove into the back of a semi-truck.

The impact killed the 22-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Joe Contreras of South Rockwood.

Police state the driver was found still holding a cellphone in his hand when authorities arrived on the scene.

There were no skid marks observed at the scene and alcohol was not a factor.
