Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Alleged Plot To Kill Teen Girlfriend's Family

PLYMOUTH TWP. (WWJ) - A 23-year-old Detroit man is facing several charges after police say his young girlfriend's 12-year-old brother was stabbed as part of an alleged plan to kill the girl's entire family.

Michael Rivera was arraigned Sunday on four counts of conspiracy to commit murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of felonious assault. He is being held in jail on a $1 million cash bond.

The charges stem from an incident that happened last Friday at a home in Plymouth Township. Police responded to the home around 2 a.m. after receiving a 911 call that a 12-year-old-boy had been stabbed in the neck.

The boy was rushed to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor where he underwent emergency surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Working with the Western Wayne Criminal Response Team, investigators suspected Rivera and his young girlfriend were responsible for the stabbing and started tracking them down. Both were quickly located and immediately taken into custody.

According to reports, the stabbing was part of a larger plan to kill the girl's entire family.

Investigators believe the girl, not Rivera, attacked her brother, according to reports, and that Rivera acted as an accomplice.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing charges for the girl, whose name was not released. Rivera is due back in court on Oct. 31 for a preliminary hearing.
