2nd Mistress Testifies She Got A Thrashing During Sex With Bob Bashara, Accused In Wife's Murder

DETROIT (WWJ) - A second mistress testified Wednesday that Bob Bashara gave her a beating she didn't expect.

Thus far in the trial for Bashara, who stands accused of ordering his wife's murder in 2012, several witnesses have been called by the prosecution to talk about the defendant's alternative sexual lifestyle.

Two weeks before Jane Bashara was killed, her body left in her car in a Detroit alley, Bob Bashara visited Janet Leehman in Oregon.

The two had met on the BDSM website Alt.com; and although BDSM stands for bondage, domination and sadomasochism, Leehman told the court Wednesday that she hadn't known quite what she was getting into with Bob Bashara.

Leehman told Asst. Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey that Bob Bashara arrived with a "big wad of cash," but when it came time for intimacy, there were a few surprises.

Leehman said Bob Bashara bought a whip and some rope at a farm store prior to their sexual encounter, during which he failed to perform due to apparent erectile dysfunction.

She testified that it was a painful experience.

"It was awful... I wasn't expecting what I got...a really good beating that left marks for about three months," Leehman testified. "I got thrashed."

Leehman later testified that she overheard a phone conversation Bob Bashara had with a person he told her was a handyman, during which, "His voice became elevated and I heard him say, 'What the hell is wrong with you? I want this done; I want it done now.'"

Leehman said, after Jane Bashara's death, Bob Bashara asked her to hide his other mistress, Rachel Gillett, at a ranch in Oregon to keep her from talking to police.

Prosecutors are trying to establish that Bob Bashara's relationship with Gillett and his obsession with a BDSM lifestyle drove him to order handyman Joe Gentz to kill his wife; while the defense argues Bob Bashara's sexual proclivities are irrelevant to what happened to Jane Bashara.

Gentz, who confessed he killed Jane Bashara under Bob Bashara's orders, is in prison for second-degree murder.

Asst. Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey says the evidence will show that, while Gentz "did the physical act" — and DNA will prove that — Gentz committed the murder under Bob Bashara's direction.

Bob Bashara is currently serving out another sentence after he pleaded guilty to having tried to have Gentz killed in jail.
