Crews To Try Again To Move Old Oak Tree To New Home

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - A tree that predates the founding of the University of Michigan is about to get a new home on campus.

Crews are expected to make another attempt Monday at completing the 250-year-old bur oak's move to the front entrance of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

The 65-foot-tall tree is being relocated 500 feet down a pedestrian walkway to make way for a $135 million donor-funded expansion of the Ross School.

Workers from a Texas company that specializes in such moves and a Detroit-based contractor moved the tree 90-plus percent of the way on Saturday. On Sunday, one of the inflatable air bladders holding up the tree burst, halting the move.

The plan is to finally slide the tree into its final resting place sometime on Monday.
