Four Detroit Police Officers Suspended For Alleged Evidence Tampering

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Four Detroit police officers have been suspended for allegedly mishandling evidence taken during a drug raid.

According to the Detroit News, Officers allegedly failed to properly log drugs into evidence and mishandled expensive items confiscated from drug dealers, including big-screen TV's and a gaming system. Detroit Police Chief James Craig said that two of the suspended officers could be charged on the federal level because the FBI is handling the investigation.

In a separate investigation initiated by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, two other officers assigned to the department's Tactical Response Unit were suspended. The FBI probe has been ongoing for several months, alongside an Internal investigation, which began in May.

In July, Craig disbanded the Narcotics Section and initiated a policy capping the amount of time officers can spend in a special section.
