Gary Peters Fills The Seat Of Retiring Democrat Carl Levin

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Democrat is retaining the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democrat Carl Levin. With well over 50 percent of the vote Gary Peters defeated Republican challenger Terri Lynn Land. The three-term U.S. Congressman took the stage Tuesday evening to thank his family and volunteers, and to preview the plans he has with Michigan's U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow.

"I know that we are going to make a great team together," said Peters to an enthusiastic crowd. "And I'm anxiously awaiting our candidate for governor Mark Schauer - I know he's in a very tight race right now - and we are hoping Mark all the best as we continue to watch those polls - Mark Schauer is another great public servant - and we are hoping he's going to be our next governor."

Hundreds showing up for what was a raucous party at the Roostertail in Detroit all in anticipation for Wayne County Executive candidate Warren Evans.

Former Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans vying for the job against Republican John Dalton of Livonia.

One of the men will replace Bob Ficano, who lost in the August Primary.

In Melvindale, residents will decide if they want to use bonds to fix roads and upgrade some city buildings.

Voters in the Riverview School District will see two bond measures to be used for school building improvements.

In Washtenaw County - Ann Arbor voters will elect a new mayor for the first time in 14 years.
