DETROIT (WWJ) – A Democrat is retaining the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democrat Carl Levin. With well over 50 percent of the vote Gary Peters defeated Republican challenger Terri Lynn Land. The three-term U.S. Congressman took the stage Tuesday evening to thank his family and volunteers, and to preview the plans he has with Michigan’s U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow.
“I know that we are going to make a great team together,” said Peters to an enthusiastic crowd. “And I’m anxiously awaiting our candidate for governor Mark Schauer – I know he’s in a very tight race right now – and we are hoping Mark all the best as we continue to watch those polls – Mark Schauer is another great public servant – and we are hoping he’s going to be our next governor.”
